He crashed in the the police scene. Upon enter the unit, Mr. Savage refused to be briefed from the officer all ready on the crime, using the gloves which was correct, he painted the finger print evidence, which the finger prints are important asset to any crime, perhaps the perpetrator had his prints on file.
He washed away the blood in the bathroom ,and brushed his own hair into the sink, and flushed toilet ? we wont know, and he put cigarette ashes on the victims body, and tasting a substance, believed to be heroin.
On any crime scene the officers converse and begin to take notes, wearing gloves and bagging any items of interest that may lead to an arrest and or a suspect.
They did not even id the body if it was male, female, young or old. This was a mock crime scene of what never to do, and people are trained in this area for a reason, so this will not happen.

Polygraphs
Most polygraphs are non conclusive, so this in my opinion is why they should not be used in the court of law, which means, most answers will be non truths, leaving the person to look like they have committed the crime, and or are guilty.
Polygraph test should be limited to 5 questions, and they are used wrong, interrogation style, and is WRONG..and called misuse.
Polygraphs measures peoples blood pressure heart rate, physiological thinking, this can help catch a criminal perhaps in the area of body langue, and cause the person to collapse under pressure.

Cognitive Interview and Technique
Video was not able to be reviewed
I read the assigned article, the best way I can explain cognitive interviewing would be to say questions are asked, to retrieve information from witnesses and victims, from memory.
The information is too include, sights, sounds, feelings and emotions, weather and other etc...
We sometimes want specifics, but in the cognitive interview, you are to repeat all things that come to memory, even if you believe it to be irrelevant.
The questions should be open for the person to use their own words, stay on point, the questions should be focused, and be detailed.
Finally the most important part of any interview and or interrogation is to build a rapport with any one giving out the information.

Miranda Rights
Yes, the Miranda Rights have to be told to an individual, they have a right to know they are under arrest and they are going to be held, even if the individual, knows their rights, heard them, and can quote them, Miranda Rights are to protect the officer, and individual.
We have The Bill of Rights, which has a Fifth Amendment which lets you know that you may not testify if it can incriminate you in the case.
When someone talks to an officer and they are not threatened and or intimidated in giving the information, this is voluntary, the court will look at the circumstances, and they will determine if the person understood their rights, and will proceed from that point on. Yes, your words may come back to incriminate you.
The Officer will read you your rights prior to interrogation while in custody, they can wait, the suspect may volunteer information.
You will find and officer exempt for immediately reading the rights to a suspect when the public is in immediate danger.
The police have every right to ask you questions, and that is why you have the right to say "I am not obligated to answer, " Do not be rude, and you can politely ask why they want to question you. They are just doing their job.
Yes, they can approach you again, to get basic information, name, address, things along that line, for their report.
